What a great afternoon we had at the Social Roots meet up last Friday - making wreaths, festive decorations and bird feeders
Our new block of Taking Part classes return w/c 17 April and run until Sat 24 June 2023, before taking a break for the summer holidays. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 5 April 2023.
We have a varied line up of classes and workshops taking place with something for all ages. Sessions are led by artists /professional tutors and are friendly, welcoming and informal. No previous experience is required.
Activities are booked as a block and taster sessions are also available (subject to availability) if you wish to try a class first - to enquire about a taster please email tickets@platform-online.co.uk
Classes are offered on a Pay-What-You-Like basis, where you decide what to pay. You can pay for a full block up front or pay weekly - both online or at the class itself in cash or by card. As a guide, we recommend a payment of £5 per class however please pay what you like.
If a class is showing as fully booked please email tickets@platform-online.co.uk to be added to the waiting list - often spaces come up.
MUSIC:
Platform Singers (16 years+) | Fridays | 21 April until 23 June 2023 | 2.30pm - 4pm
Run by choir leader Rachel Hynes, Platform Singers is a friendly, welcoming group and no singing experience is needed. We start off each session with a chat & cuppa at 2.30pm before moving onto singing. If you just want to sing then join us at 3pm. Guitar & Fiddle Lessons (adults & children age 5yrs+) | Tuesdays | 18 April - 20 June 2023 | Various times
Our Guitar and Fiddle lessons are held as group sessions and are led by professional musicians. Friendly and welcoming, they are open to all ages from 5yrs+ and all levels of experience. More details for Guitar lessons here and details for fiddle here.
Drum Lessons | (adults & children age 8yrs+) | Thursdays | 20 April - 22 June 2023 | Various times.
One to one sessions led by professional tutors - open to everyone age 8yrs and over, at any level of experience. More details here.
M3 | Make Music Move | Saturdays | 29 April - 17 June | From 1pm
Led by Paragon, M3 | Make Music Move is an inclusive dance and music programme for teenagers with additional support needs. The aim is to encourage movement, creativity and more importantly make friends and have fun! More details here.
VISUAL ART:
Clack and Yak Knitting Group (16yrs+) | Mondays | 17 April - 19 June 2023 | 11am - 1pm
Platform’s Clack and Yak knitting group meet in the Platform Cafe for a chat and a cuppa whilst knitting, sewing or crocheting. Friendly and informal, beginners, improvers or seasoned knitters alike are all welcome. More information here.
Nu Gen Art + Design (11yrs +) | Tuesdays | 18 April - 20 June 2023 | 5pm - 6.30pm
Nu Gen is a weekly art group. The group is artist led and challenges teenagers to make artwork that represents their interests, exploring identity and what it is to be an artist. If you like drawing, painting or sculpture, are studying art at school or fancy trying something new - then Nu Gen is for you. Full details here.
Art Factory (16yrs+) | Tuesdays | 18 April - 20 June 2023 | 12pm - 1.30pm & 2.30pm - 4pm
A relaxed, informal space for adults to get creative and inspired with activities and advice on various art techniques. Art Factory meet on Tuesdays, with two sessions running due to demand for spaces. Led by artists, this is a welcoming group and a great way to get involved in a whole host of different types of art activities. More details here.
Saturday Art Club (5 - 11yrs) | Saturdays | 29 April - 24 June 2023 | 11.15am - 12.45pm & 1.45pm - 3.15pm
An informal art class aimed at primary school age children, offering a chance to be playful with materials and create artworks to take home. Artist led and a fun way to spend a Saturday! There are two sessions running due to demand for spaces. More info here.
MULTI-ARTFORM:
Play Cafe (0-5yrs) | Saturdays | 29 April - 24 June 2023 | 11am - 12pm
Bring your wee ones along and enjoy some creative activities. Each week is different - join us for theatre, dance, music and art and craft activities for babies and toddlers, all led by Platform’s associate artists. It doesn’t matter if you are a parent, grandparent, carer, auntie or uncle - everyone is welcome. Healthy drinks and snacks provided before the class from 10.30am. More details here.

Monday Night Drama (8 – 16 years) | Mondays | 17 April - 19 June 2023 | 5.30pm - 7pm
Monday Night Drama is a fun, weekly drama workshop for those age 8 -16 years old, who are interested in performance, fun and creativity! The workshops are artist led and are designed to develop skills and confidence and meet new people. More details here.
Thursday Night Drama (16yrs+) | Thursdays | 20 April - 22 June 2023 | 6pm - 8pm
Thursday Night Drama is a place for adults age 16yrs+ who have an interest in performance. The company is open to members of all abilities and no previous experience required. It is a friendly, supportive space for new and emerging performers and performance artists to continue developing their skills and confidence as they move from full-time education and youth theatre into the creative industries and other sectors of the professional world.
