Brilliant new show to form part of Chrysalis festival in November Performance Taking part Platform
An account of weekly workshops by Isabel Dickens Performance Taking part Artists at work Platform Young Company
Platform Young Company is a place for young people aged 16-24 who have an interest in performance. The group meets at Platform each Saturday and is open to members of all abilities - no previous experience required.
PYC is a supportive space for new and emerging performers and performance artists to continue developing their skills and confidence as they move from full-time education and youth theatre into the creative industries and other sectors of the professional world.
Participants will collaborate with one another and two practicing theatre makers to develop a rich experience in all aspects of devised theatre. You will have the opportunity to explore your own ideas on a weekly basis, where the focus will be on developing your skill set in a supportive, creative and fun working environment.
You will learn new ways of working with text, image and movement and work towards public performances. You will gain confidence in working with your own interests and ideas and learn new approaches to collaborating with others.
Designed to offer a pathway to the professional industry, Platform Young Company has created and staged a number of successful performances over the last five years including The Island by Lewis Hetherington, #Unplugged in collaboration with writer and director Beth Morton and News Just In with Julie Brown.
The group are currently led by Gudrun Soley Sigurdardottir and Eoin McKenzie. Together with Eoin and Gudrun, PYC presented Shaking the Habitual as part of the Chrysalis Festival 2018, an international showcase of performance held at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
Over lockdown the group met online and made Good Things Take Time - this was created entirely online and can be seen here.
Whilst the form and content of each performance will change, we promise to commission currently practicing writers, makers, directors and performers to work alongside the Platform Young Company. These commissions are offered to artists interested in collaborating with Young Company members to create high-quality productions.
The Young Company can support up to 20 individuals each term. Membership is open to all regardless of experience and offered on a first come, first served basis.
