2 Dec 2022

As part of Platform’s Christmas show, Sleeping Beauty, we have welcomed a group of Musical Theatre students from Glasgow Kelvin College who will play a variety of roles in the show during the 29 date run, kicking off from 6 – 23 December.

The students who are currently in their second year of the HND Musical Theatre at the neighbouring Easterhouse campus, will be performing as bats, trees and sidekicks, supporting the lead cast of Yolanda Mitchell as Beauty, Irene Allan as dad Wee Jimmy, Itxaso Moreno as Beauty’s dog Rocket and Jo Freer as the Evil Queen.

The students are Kirsten Shaw, Eleanor Douglas, Eve Allardice, Kira Clemenson, Rachael Swanson, Isla Camden, Eve Mathieson, Kate Pollock, Sophie Scouller, Ashleigh Talbot, Evonne Jeffrey, Julia Nsimba and Ava Wood. Over the course of the show run they each will work on rota, performing roles such as ‘Tony Tree’, ‘Belinda’ ‘Bruiser’ and ‘Bob Bat’.

Angela Cameron, Lecturer in Faculty of Creative and Digital Industries, and Dimitrios Paparakis, Lecturer of Performing Arts (Dance & Movement) said: “Glasgow Kelvin College Performing Arts are delighted to be part of this year’s performance of Sleeping Beauty. The opportunity to work on a professional show with the fantastic creative team and actors at Platform has been an invaluable experience for our Musical Theatre students.

“Working to a professional tech and rehearsal schedule and immersed in the production process has provided the knowledge to develop many skills preparing them for their future in the performing arts industry.”

Eve Allardice, who plays one of the ‘Tony Tree’ roles said: “I have been involved in productions in the past like Annie and We Will Rock You, however this is my first Christmas panto style show and I couldn't be more excited. It’s been great working with professional, working actors to improve on myself and my techniques – and a brilliant opportunity for myself and fellow students to be given.”

Artistic Director of Platform and Director of the Sleeping Beauty Matt Addicott: "It's been great to work with Musical Theatre students from Glasgow Kelvin College on Sleeping Beauty - the students play a variety of roles including bats, trees and woodland ravers!

“They have brought a great deal of humour, talent and energy to the production and I'm looking forward to seeing their performances over the next three weeks."
