As well as hosting the SoulsINQUEST exhibition with INQUEST until Sat 29 June 2024 we are running a series of free events in connection with the exhibition at part of Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art:
- Blueprint Workshop on Fri 14 June: Blueprint Workshop is a creative session for adults with experience or interested in the criminal justice system. Artist Richie Cumming has developed this workshop to invite people to creatively respond to the question: How can we make the Criminal Justice System Better? All materials provided. This workshop is delivered in partnership with Vox Liminis.
- Film screening on 19 June: The UK is Not Innocent is a 45-minute documentary film made by Rainbow Collective as part of INQUEST’s 40 Years heritage project. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A exploring the role of visual arts in campaigns for social and racial justice. Q&A will be chaired by Naomi Oppenheim (INQUEST) and will feature Rachel Hamada (Take One Action), Sarah Booker, Simon Israel and Marcia Rigg (Family campaigner and INQUEST Trustee).
- Panel discussion on 19 June featuring: Aamer Anwar (Lawyer), Kadi Johnston (Sister of Sheku Bayoh), Sarah Armstrong (Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research / Glasgow University), Deborah Coles (Director, INQUEST). The panel discussion event that will ask the question: Why do deaths in custody matter in Scotland?
- Guided exhibition tours on 20 June: join an informal tour of the exhibition, offering further insight into the project, artworks on display and archive materials that is presented. There is also a free Zine making workshop in partnership with Glasgow Prisoner Solidarity.
