New collection of Freddie Anderson works: Let Us Act for Ourselves

3 Jun 2020

We’re thrilled to share a new book on poetry, plays and prose written by the renowned poet, playwright and author, Freddy Anderson who lived and worked in Easterhouse for over thirty years. The collection –‘Let Us Act for Ourselves’ - has been compiled and edited by Joey Simons and features contributions from Freddy’s son Paul Anderson and the celebrated actor, Gary Lewis.

You can read the book HERE.

Joey said: “I’m delighted to be able to share the work of Freddy Anderson with new audiences and reconnect him with old ones, in Easterhouse and beyond. I think we need his passion, wit and commitment to a better world more than ever before.

“If you have any recollections of Freddy you’d like to share, or even old scripts or poem, please get in touch. And, in the man’s own words: ‘take heart and take hope from the song of the spud!’

We would love to hear from you if you do have any stories, poems, plays or memories of Freddy, his peers and contemporaries, or The Easterhouse Summer Festival. Please get in touch by email: info@platform-online.co.uk or telephone: 0141 276 96 96 [OPT 1].

Matt Addicott, Programme Lead at Platform, who supported the book, said:

“Joey came to Platform in search of more information about Freddy and his work - we were keen to help and supported him as our Social Historian in Residence from 2016 until 2019. This collection forms part of his ongoing research of radical Glasgow and the art and literature produced in the city. It has been financially supported as part of our year-round programme of art and culture.

“He has met with many members of the local community and presented his work at numerous public events including Outskirts 2018 in which he introduced readings of Freddy’s work by celebrated writers James Kelman and Tom Leonard both of whom were contemporaries of Freddy.”
