A collection of contemporary spoken word monologues and group poems, giving voice to a millennial generation, frequently reduced to a sound-bite in mass media – ineffectual, lazy, oversensitive “snowflakes”. A hybrid poetic theatre production showcasing a kaleidoscope of diverse UK voices, played out like a frenzied scroll through a social media feed, with seemingly disconnected pieces, woven together with athletic, physical delivery.

Featuring a special support slot from a Glasgow poet.

Presented by Sonnet Youth and Company Many, in association with Platform, Theatre Royal Dumfries and D&G Arts Live.

Creating and Staging Autobiographical Spoken Word

Location: The Hub, Platform

Thursday 17 October

5pm - 6.30pm

Led by award winning artists Cat Hepburn (spoken word artist, Sonnet Youth) and Lucy Wild (thick, skin, elastic heart Movement Director), this workshop will explore spoken word theatre as an alternative, viable medium of performance compared to more traditional forms. The content will introduce performance poetry, and propose how it can be combined with movement to make a compelling, artistic presentation. Linking in with the performance of thick skin, elastic heart, we will investigate how we can use our own stories to create fun and engaging work. Through entertaining writing and moving tasks and games, Cat and Lucy aim to empower the participants to explore meaningful work that relates to them.

No experience necessary but a love for writing, and movement is a plus.

Can participants bring something to write with, and please be aware you might be asked to remove your shoes and socks.

Please email tickets@platform-online.co.uk to book a space. Please note the workshop is limited to 20 places.
