Daytripping is an exhibition that gathers together photographs that dwell on the pleasures and curiosities of short journeys. It is about the act of stepping away, noticing details we might otherwise pass by, and returning with new perspectives on the familiar. A collection of evocative photographs documenting the joy of day trips, celebrating people and place, taken by photographer Alan Dimmick.
Daytrips occupy and create a space between the everyday and the extraordinary. They can offer a chance of a brief escape from the normal rhythm of our lives and can heighten our attention to new and familiar places. The works presented here explore that in-between space where travel and observation meet. Some highlight landscapes or cityscapes transformed by a passing glance, while others capture the quiet rituals of moving from one place to another. Together, they show how even the briefest excursions can shift how we see and feel.
Alan Dimmick is a photographer who lives in Glasgow, he has been taking photographs since buying his first camera in 1977. He takes pictures daily. The collection here has been selected from his vast archive, some taken on his short trips from home to run an errand or on those planned daytrips with friends and family. Many taken on jaunts down the west coast, in particular Millport and the Isle of Cumbrae.
Each image is accompanied by a short recording by Alan, that you can listen to on the Alan Dimmick Photographic Archive website.
Selected from a vast archive, the photos celebrate old traditions of jaunts down the west coast, in particular the Isle of Cumbrae – Millport.
