Beans On Screen: A Community Film, Food and Climate Gathering

Beans on Screen is a community project in Easterhouse, Glasgow, where local residents have come together over the course of the summer to explore food and climate justice through film and conversation, using the humble but superpowered bean as inspiration!

As part of Take One Action Film Festival which  is hosting screenings across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness, Platform is hosting a film screening on Thu 25 Sep  - Together We Grow - which focuses on the power of beans and the benefits of growing, cooking and eating together as a community - come and see the movie, enjoy some talks and eat delicious food all focused around the humble bean, food justice, climate and neighbourhood.

As well as watching Together We Grow, we will also watch a short film from the Beans on Screen Easterhouse summer project , and hear from food charity Nourish about their exciting and radical proposals for Public Diners in Scotland.

The Easterhouse group / residents will also talk about their experiences and some of the  findings from the project.

What do you get when you combine a community cafe, a community grocer and a community bike works? Plus a repair cafe, a sewing workshop, garden sharing, and a honey-making enterprise?
Common Unity! A truly wonderful example of the importance of the community in tackling issues like social isolation and food insecurity. And in building the social connections and social relationships so important to health and life.

In Together We Grow we get to know a group of community members doing the important work of caring for others and building community resilience. It’s a community hub of learning, support, creativity, joy, sharing and shared interest, all in one place.

Screening as part of #TOAFF25

The Beans on Screen project is funded by a Healthy Planet, Healthy People grant from the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

The film will feature FARE Community Allotments.
