An account of a recent performance workshop for 16 - 25 year olds
It was all go at Platform over the Easter school holidays – thank you to all the children and families who came along to enjoy food and creative activities.
We served up free breakfasts and lunches on weekdays and the space was busy with families catching up over breakfast in the morning and sharing lunch before joining in on activities.
From music sessions, art and science activities and planting workshops, to yoga, nature walks and energetic dance workshops – there was something for everyone.
The Platform auditorium was turned into a cinema with screenings of Sing 2, Moana 2 and The Wild Robot, as well as imaginative fun with paper plane making and a brilliant music workshop with Sprog Rock.
Some feedback from a wee one attending A Journey of Flight’s paper plane interactive workshop/performance: “It was fun to play, I loved when I threw the paper plane on the dancer’s head!” whilst a toddler shared; “I love strawberries and I can have so many here!”.
Big thanks to Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Harley and Claire from The Conservation Volunteers, Intergenerational Mentoring Network, Sprog Rock band, musician Rachel Wilson from our Taking Part Music programme, Anna for her yoga session, Susan Wilson from FARE Allotments, A journey of Flight, Soup performance and to Dami from Three 60 Dance Collective for the amazing shows and workshops.
The Bridge library was open throughout with board games and Lego thanks to Glasgow Life, who also offered free swims.
A warm thank you to the families who came along and brought such great energy and vibes to the building!
We’re grateful to Glasgow City Council’s Children’s Holiday Food and Activity Programme for funding.
We were also delighted to be working again with Celtic Foundation, providing arts activity as part of their Easter Games programme. Alongside free breakfast and lunch and sports activity, Platform provided a selection of sessions during the second week of the Easter Holidays for kids attending - who were from local primary schools in Parkhead and Helenslea.
Activities included drama sessions led by Sean McGarvey from Platform’s Taking Part programme, art and craft sessions led by artist Pearl Kinnear, street dance sessions led by Dami from Three 60 Dance collective, and clay modelling-sculpture activity led by artist Alys Owen.
