Toast with lots of butter

24 Jul 2026

We’re excited to welcome lovebug + worm back to Platform! They will be running a workshop as part of our Summer Holiday Club that ties in with their new show, Toast with lots of butter.

Toast with lots of butter is a comedic theatre show for ages 8-12, and it’s all about food. It’s about chips, trips to the big supermarket, the wonder of chocolate fountains and conveyor belt toaster machines, and very important questions, like what is the right way to eat a cheese string?

The show follows two very busy dinner ladies, all glammed up in crocs, pasta necklaces and pop rings. In between ambitious dance routines and reheating forgotten cups of tea, this show highlights the never-ending job of caring and cooking for people.

The pair will be performing Toast with lots of butter in schools in Perth, Edinburgh and Easterhouse in September/October, and then at Perth Theatre as part of HOOT!, a comedy theatre festival from Dirliebane Theatre Company in collaboration with Perth Theatre.

They shared a short scratch performance of Toast with lots of butter back in October 2025 at Platform and Imaginate's Scratch that! event, and are excited to be back to make it into a full-length show, supported by Creative Scotland's Open Fund.

Florence and Hope will be running a creative workshop as part of Platform's free Summer Holiday Club on Friday 31st July, from 11am-12:30pm:

"Whether it be the Play Cafés, the holiday food programme or developing a performance, Platform has been such a supportive and responsive place for us as emerging artists. It feels very fulfilling to make work for children in a space that they are a part of. The energy of the holiday food programme is especially inspiring in the context of Toast with lots of butter since it's all about the importance of food and the people who make it (shoutout to the Mary and the rest of the Platform café team!)."

If you want to get a sneak peek into Toast with lots of butter, come along to the workshop where you can make your own theatre show!
