With an aim to connect arts and sustainability, we’re really pleased to have joined Creative Carbon Scotland’s Green Arts Initiative community and show our commitment to improving the monitoring and management of our environmental impacts each year.
As members we look forward to contributing artistically to wider conversations around climate change and embracing the other 10 Steps to a Just and Green Recovery.
We’ve been busy already, focusing some of our programme on climate change via a series of artist led workshops that have taken place over the past year. These free workshops engaged with local teenagers aged between 12 – 18yrs and were themed around nature, climate change and the environment. Ahead of the much-anticipated climate change conference, COP 26, in Glasgow this November, the workshops provided a great starting point for those wanting to make a difference and learn more about the subject.
We are also planning lots more events and activities in the lead up to the conference including performances, ceilidhs and creative writing workshops.

And whilst on the green theme our Arts Manager Matt and Programme Coordinator Anna had a brilliant morning recently at the local Elcho Gardens in the heart of Calton.
With Betty and Mary from the Calton Area Association leading the way, they had a wander around the beautiful gardens and met with members of the Roots to Recovery group - and all on what was Green Arts Day!
Calton Heritage and Learning has been working with local volunteers to establish a community garden and play area, and make much needed improvements to the space. For more information and how to get involved you can find out more here.
