Super (hero!) fun at Glasgow East Comicon!

7 Nov 2025

Last month The Bridge was awash with all things comic themed - as the first Glasgow East Comicon took place, hosted by Fuse and Platform. A  big thank you to everyone who attended!

The next Glasgow East Comicon will take place at Platform on Sep 12 2026 - watch this space for tickets going on sale.

Running throughout the day were talks and creative sessions for all ages and a chance for fans to show off their incredible costumes and celebrate their favourite characters - with a prize draw celebrating the best costume.

Author Chris McQueer took to the auditorium stage to talk about his work, whilst Etienne Kubwabo, a filmmaker and DJ based in Glasgow and creator of Beats of War was also interviewed alongside the fantastic Easterhouse based band Toothless Aggression who showcased live music.

Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi donated a signed script as a raffle prize - won by local boy Liam Lennox -  and there were a range of stalls selling everything from comics, graphic novels and stickers to keychains, potion making, crystals, artwork, jewellery and collectables!  Stalls included Handmade by Kathryn, Craftopia creative, Phoenix Crystals, Slyghtly Art, Scunnered Ink Limited, Scottish Cartoon Studio, Fuse, Beats of War and Rough Cut Comics.

As well as a thank you to Peter Capaldi for the script donation, thanks for other donations go to Claire Grogan, Fuse and Still Game Merch bundle from Scunnered In Limited.

There was lots to browse with 'Artists Alley' showcasing the work of national comic creators/illustrators and for more interactive activities, there was face painting, caricatures from Scottish Cartoon Studio, glitter tattoos and Dungeons and Dragons role play/games taking place throughout the day.

Displays and workshops by Who Ray Dalek Sci Fi Hire and Shady Scarecrow were a hit, alongside a comic themed Saturday Art Club, where kids had a chance to make cosutmes and masks.

Ghostbusters, Batman and Iron Man made an appearance along with various other cosplayers from the comic universe - as well as Dr Who Daleks and a Ghostbusters car, which was parked up in The Bridge Car Park., There was even a visit from Finnie - the Commonwealth 2026 mascot!

To round of the event there was  a screening the Fantastic Four: Next Steps, shown in the Platform auditorium.

Funding also supported, in the lead up to the event, engagement with groups, with a range of creative workshops which included cape making and the creation of an Easterhouse Comic at the October 2025 school holiday food programme.

Platform artists, Pearl and Celie, visited groups to make masks and capes and worked with older kids made a comic zine - these groups included Fuse Shettleston, Pavillion and Glasgow Kelvin College Family Hub.

The event was supported by Glasgow Area Committee from whom Fuse received funding from.
