Update from our drama class for 8 - 12 year olds Creation Station
Presented by Barrowland Ballet and commissioned by Imaginate. In association with Platform and The Work Room.
This is the story of a girl learning to fly. Washed up on a tiny island, she studies the birds, her only companions and begins to work out her escape.
They said she would never do it. Impossible. But, with these unfolding wings, they had fallen silent and watched her go until she was just a speck on the horizon. She was at one with the wind. This was what it was to be free. To soar. She soared up … up … and away … and the world below got smaller and smaller.
Learning to Fly asks how we can survive a childhood where you don’t get the attention or love you need. And how, for many young people, it is imagination and sheer determination that lets them fly when forces all around want to pull them down.
The award-winning Barrowland Ballet use intricate choreography, wit and humour to tell this evocative story.
Supported through the Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund.
