Barbara Morgenstern is a German electronic music artist, keyboardist and singer from Berlin who has made some of the most interesting and absorbing electronic records over the last 20 years. As long-time fans of her work, Platform is delighted to welcome her to the venue in November.

Barbara Morgenstern moved to Berlin from Hagen via Hamburg in the early 1990s, was introduced to Gudrun Gut’s label Monika Enterprise and became a firmament of the Wohnzimmer scene. The Wohnzimmer scene saw gigs take place at illegal parties and living rooms and these tight confined spaces forced the musicians to perform with reduced equipment and encouraged an embracing of minimalism.

Barbara has made music with Pole, Robert Lippok and Stefan Schneider of To Rococo Rot, Bill Wells, Maximillian Hecker, Justus Kohncke, T.Raumschmiere amongst others as well as leading the wonderful Choir Der Kulturen Der Welt and writing music for world renowned theatre company Rimini Protocol.

“Unschuld und Verwüstung” (Innocence and Desolation) is the name of her tenth studio album and is her debut on Berlin based label Staatsakt. “Unschuld und Verwüstung” is about continuing in spite of everything, about persevering despite the doubt, about the desire for peace of mind. And even if it may seem increasingly impossible to us, about finally getting the wrong thing right!

To open Glasgow’s Cucina Povera will perform ethereal electronica from her debut album Hilja on Night School Records.
