“Death is a calling from your ancestors through the membrane between the living and the dead.”

Four women are summoned back to the African continent as strangers, eventually becoming sisters with one common thread: the blood of priestesses.

When Beldina Odenyo, aka Heir of the Cursed, died in November 2021 she left an unstaged play, Tero Buru, named after a funeral ritual practised by the Luo people of East Africa.

Beldina’s recorded voice is supported by a dazzling cast including Chinyanta Kabasso, Hannah Lavery, Jamie Marie Leary and Kimberley Mandindo who bring these words to life for the first time in a spectacular and intimate production.

Written by Beldina Odenyo. A Leah McAleer Project produced by Disaster Plan and in association with National Theatre of Scotland.
