New: What’s On August - December 2023

12 Jul 2023

Our new What's On Guide is out now and is packed full of theatre, music, and visual art - as well as our Pay-What-You-Like Taking Part programme which is packed with lots of classes and workshops for all ages.

Kicking the new season off….there's still time to catch Coulson & Tennant's East End Portraits exhibition which is on until 19 August - and you can join us for the closing event on Sat 26 August which marks the end of the exhibition with a celebration of the people and stories featured (free but ticketed).

We open our performance season in September with Sex Education Explorers (S.E.X.) by Mamoru Iriguchi, a time-travel ride through the evolution of sexes, packed with 1980’s pop hits, humour, DIY props, costume & video for everyone who missed the sex education they deserved at school!

September sees the opening of A Carnival of Overlapping Histories, a new exhibition by artist Ashanti Harris. This project was made with residents of Northeast Glasgow, celebrating the cultures and family histories of the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia – and exploring how these have entangled with Scotland’s own. Running until Dec 2023.

Join us for the opening of Ashanti's project at our second Made in Easterhouse event of the year on Sat 9 September with live performances, music and workshops surrounding the immersive installation. It will be a day-long celebration of community and art. Food and drinks served throughout!

Penny Chivas brings us Burnt Out in October, a piece of solo dance theatre, weaving spoken work and movement centred around our changing climate and the artist’s own experience of bushfires. Followed by a Q&A session with Penny and artist Sapna Agarwal.

Our big band afternoon Autumn Tea Dances are on Tue 10 & Wed 11 October with Jon Ritchie and That Swing Sensation will get your toes tapping as the Platform auditorium is transformed into an old-school dance hall. Join us for dancing or just take a seat and watch and enjoy the music.

October also sees the screening of One Last Spin, a hard-hitting film about the devastating harms of gambling followed by audience discussion with a panel of guest speakers and live music performance.

It's lucky for some…. as we launch Full House Fridays every Friday from the 27 October to 15 December - join us for a game of bingo, bowl of soup, special guests, surprises and plenty of prizes!

Lost Map Records and Prah Recordings will co-host a Halllowe’en All Dayer as they respectively celebrate 10 years with an all-day party of wild, genre-breaking, subversive live music & DJs. Fancy-dress encouraged. Families can join us before the event for a free family-friendly Halloween-inspired art workshop.

KOR! Records will be working with a group of young musicians in November to create a live music performance at the KOR! Music Spectacle, an inclusive evening of sound and visuals in a relaxed atmosphere.

And last, but definitely not least, the creative team behind last year’s hit Sleeping Beauty, Platform is delighted to present Cinderella in association with Glasgow Kelvin College. Join us for this family friendly Christmas show, packed full of songs, jokes and larger than life characters!

You can read the What's On Guide digitally or pop into Platform to pick up a hard copy!
