Teen & adult art classes at Platform

13 May 2025

Marketing intern Alba paid a visit to Platform’s Art Factory and Nu Gen art classes...

"From flying penguins to a giant toucan, from big leaves to tattoo-inspired snakes & roses, and even a comic strip titled The Last Supper - with ‘Supper’ crossed out and replaced with “Art Class” - these are just a few of the wonderful and bold creations from Platforms' Art Factory (adults) and Nu Gen (11yrs+) groups!

"The moment you step into the Art Factory, you can feel it: whether it’s bright colours or just black and white, creativity is everywhere. It’s such a great space to express yourself and let go - and you’ll probably get the itch to start making something yourself!

"The group took a little journey into local history, swapping stories over chats and cookies. One of the artworks marked the 850th anniversary of Glasgow’s famous coat of arms emblem while another gave us a fantastic cubist take on the medieval neighbouring Provan Hall building.

"Group member Suzanne’s big fluorescent “I am sensitive” leaf is an iconic creation, beautifully capturing the therapeutic role that art can play, echoing a freedom of expression.

"Creativity is at the heart of Art Factory, as Kit, one of our regulars and the creator of the flying penguins, says: “You can always experiment and try out new things and techniques!”.

"When popping into the Nu Gen group, which is for high school children, it was great to see fun and free-flowing imaginations: there were beans, Gorillaz characters, flowers, and jellyfish - a wild mash-up of quirky ideas all coming to life in one energetic, creative space. It's always amazing how kids can take things that have been around for a while - like Gorillaz music - and imprint them a fresh meaning.

"Platform’s Nu Gen art space really opens up room for this kind of playful exploration; it's a place where every kind of odd idea or offbeat reference not only fits in but thrives. It's a free, expressive zone where young people can get in tune with their creative instincts, let loose, and surprise you with what they come up with.

"Once again, they proved that the more you imagine, the more you can create.”
