Shuffle Street Dance Scratch Night call out for performers

8 Mar 2024

Shuffle is a Scratch Night event for Street Dance artists in Scotland and offers performing artists the opportunity to present a work in progress in an informal and relaxed environment, and get feedback from the audience.

The event is curated by THREE60 directors Divine Tasinda & Kemono L.Riot and producer MC Laffitte and they are inviting applications from street dance performers from all backgrounds with the aim to present a selection of pieces to an audience made up of creatives, dance enthusiasts and anyone interested to see the work currently being made in Scotland. Deadline for applications is Sunday 31 March.

The event will take place on Thursday 2nd May 2024, 7pm-9pm here at Platform and you can book tickets here.  The event is supported by Platform, The Work Room, Dance Base and Creative Scotland.

Want to take part?

THREE60 is looking for:

  • Work from independent artists/choreographers based in Scotland who specialised in street dance (Hip-Hop, Popping, Locking, Krump, Break Dance, African dance and African diasporic dance styles, Afrobeats, Dancehall…).
  • Work in progress, new pieces which have had little or no previous exposure.
  • Pieces between 5 - 20 minutes duration.
  • Simple technical requirements (lights, sets, props…).
  • The call is open to groups, duets and solos. We are aiming to program 4 performing acts with a maximum of 10 performers across all acts.

Successful applicants will:

  • Receive a fee of £200 per person for their performance on the night.
  • 8 hours of rehearsal space in the weeks ahead of the performance (subject to studio availability).
  • Have the opportunity to meet with THREE60 director Divine Tasinda and receive advice on artistic direction and creative choices.

  • Receive travel expenses if based outside of Glasgow.
  • Have the opportunity to get feedback from the audience during the event.
  • Have their performance photographed and filmed.

How to get involved:

  • Complete the online application form. The application can be completed in a written, video or audio format.
  • You may also submit links to up to three additional supporting documents (CV, images, videos, sound clip…)

POC artists:

THREE60 recognise the capitalisation from black cultures happening in the entertainment industry that does not yet benefit street dance artists at a more local level. The selection of performing acts will be based on a strategic development to increase fluid access within the art sector for those dancers that experience barriers and biases in the industry.  They will ensure that at least three of the programmed acts will have performers who identify as people of colour.

Key dates:

  • Deadline for applications: Sunday 31st March
  • Applicants will hear back: Wednesday 3rd April
  • Technical rehearsals in theatre: Wednesday 1st May & Thursday 2nd May
  • Scratch Night: Thursday 2nd May, 7pm-9pm
