Opportunity: Commission for Dual Purpose

13 Dec 2021

Commission for Dual Purpose, is a partnership research project led by Sculpture Placement Group with Platform and Blairtummock Housing Association.

This project continues Sculpture Placement Group's (SPG’s) ongoing research into extending the lifespan of sculptures, locating them within non-art contexts and increasing access to artwork. Commission for Dual Purpose is an opportunity to work from an earlier stage than previous projects SPG have delivered, inviting artist artists to consider two locations before an artwork is conceived and produced. Working with Blairtummock Housing Association and Platform fulfils a long-term ambition for SPG, in building partnerships and embedding legacy for future audiences at the point of commissioning a work.

The Commission
The successful applicant will create a work(s) that consider both audiences and locations from the outset. Work(s) created will be presented in a short-term exhibition at Platform. Following this it will be installed within developments to the back court and communal areas of a local residential site managed by Blairtummock Housing Association, Easterhouse. The artist will be required to research and consider both locations, audiences and the duration of exhibition for each site (6 weeks Platform, minimum 10 years Blairtummock).

Artist fee £2500
Production £4000 (minimum amount available, installation costs to be covered over and above this)
Engagement £1000
