Update from our drama class for 8 - 12 year olds
The Intergenerational Mentoring Network worked in partnership with FARE Scotland and Oakwood Primary to deliver after-school Art Sessions with families.
We have a range of works on display, showcasing the new skills picked up through the sessions delivered by Matt Gillies (Art & Design Lecturer/Community Educator) and facilitated by Rosemary Fullerton (FARE Scotland) and Dr Katie Hunter (IMN). These include photomontages, character design and stories, gel printing and marbling.
Sessions were designed to encourage families to socialise, have fun with art and literacy, and nurture creative thinking and self-expression. A strong educational component was incorporated using imagery, poetry and stories to spark imagination and promote low-stakes literacy engagement.
Across 8 sessions, families were introduced to various art media and techniques including mark making, marbling, printmaking, painting, typography and clay-modelling. The sessions also had a visit from author Ewain Black who read from his books.
A special thanks to our funders Youth Link Scotland for making this project possible.
