Platform Associate Artist Eoin McKenzie talks about work and his relationship with Platform
Nu Gen, our weekly art group for young people aged 11 years and older, is now meeting each week on an online Zoom session and are continuing to work with artist Alice Dansey-Wright who leads the group. We have welcomed back Nu Gen’s former assistant Jerome who is now assisting Alice on the online sessions.
Read on to hear what the group were up to pre-lockdown and what they are working on via online meetings during lockdown!
Before our building closed in mid March, the group and Alice were working together to create a mural for one of Platforms walls, situated at an entrance to The Bridge – opposite our Café Bar. The mural design needed to work around a series of existing posters that shares information about Platform’s Taking Part programme.
Over a series of a few weeks, the group worked together on the design and the aim was to create a piece of work that would include a drawing by each young person. Alice assembled everyone’s drawings into one design and shared the final design to everyone in the first online meeting a few weeks ago. Check it out in our pictures - please note the group picture at Platform was taken pre lockdown.
It features everything from musical notes, dinosaur doodles, stick men, ghosts, snakes, abstract shapes and patterns….and it is brilliant! We are looking forward to when we are back in the building to get painting.
Each week of ‘Nu Gen online’, Alice sets a creative task and the group have a week to create their artwork and then share their creations at the online meet ups every Tuesday evening.
