Gordon Douglas | Habits of the Coexistent (2)

In 2013, Gordon Douglas was involved in our annual Glasgow School of Art fourth year exhibition and produced a live performance across the swimming pool and auditorium. Since graduating, Gordon has continued to work with Platform leading to conversations around partnership working, the way multiple organisations occupy and use the building and the connections with people who use the building.

Habits of the Co-existent (2) was the second in a series of three events taking place in awkward spaces administered by arts organisation, Platform. HotC(2) occupied Platform’s main storage unit across the car park from The Bridge on the afternoon of May 28th 2017. The spoken-word event took place at a time when the room, that usually acts as rehearsal space for touring theatre and dance companies, played host to the many colourful props and costumes of the local community’s annual carnival.

Accompanying the event was the launch of Project-Book (2) with contributions from Ben Callaghan, Cicely Farrer, Ella Hillström, and Janina Sabaliauskaite & Jade Sweeting. Project-Book 2 (Available at the link on the left here) is concerned with notions of learning through performativity, scoring organisation, and the applications of a nuanced history of eccentricity.Accompanying the event will be the launch of Project-Book 2 with contributions from Ben Callaghan, Cicely Farrer, Ella Hillström, and Janina Sabaliauskaite & Jade Sweeting. Habits of the Coexistent is a curatorial-residential dialogue between: Gordon Douglas; The NewBridge Project, Newcastle; Edinburgh College, Granton Campus; and Platform, Glasgow. The project focuses on the performativity, values and ideologies that we inherit and rehearse through shared working environments and partnerships. What kinds of habit endure post-collaboration, and how might they be indicative of continuous and socially-performed modes of governance?
